Here we are giving the simple steps on how to use SUVAT equations to find the time and acceleration easily. Follow these guidelines carefully and obtain the result
SUVAT stands for the variables s is the displacement u is the initial velocity v is the final velocity, a is the acceleration and t is the time
SUVAT equations are also called the motion of equation. The following 5 formulas will explain everything about the system of motion. Get the definition of each term in the following sections.
The SUVAT Formulas are along the lines:
Average velocity = (v + u)/2
v = u + at
s = ut + ½at²
u = v - at
v² = u² - 2as
s = ½(v + u)t
Where,
u is the initial velocity
v is the final velocity
s is the displacement
a is the acceleration
t is the time taken
Example
Question: A body is accelerated from 1 m/s to 5 m/s over a distance of 15 m. Find the acceleration and the time taken to move the body position.
Solution:
Given that
Initial velocity u = 1 m/s
Final velocity v = 5 m/s
Distance or displacement s = 15 m
Time taken (t) = ?
Acceleration a = ?
t = (v - u)/a
a = (v² - u²)/2s
Substitute the values
a = (5² - 1²)/2 * 15
= (25 - 1)/30
= 24/30
= 0.8
t = (5 - 1)/0.8
= 4/0.8
= 5
Therefore, the acceleration is 0.8 m/s² nad time taken is 5 seconds.

1. What are the 5 SUVAT equations?
The five SUVAT equations are displacement, acceleration, time, initial velocity and final velocity
Final velocity v = u + at
Initial velocity u = v - at
displacement s = ut + ½at²
Time t = (v - u)/a
Acceleration a = (v² - u²)/2s
2. How do you rearrange suvat equations?
We know that v = u + at
So, acceleration a = (v - u)/t
Time t = (v - u)/a
v² = u² - 2as
3. Why SUVAT Equations are used?
SUVAT Equations are used for calculating the acceleration and time when you know initial velocity, final velocity and displacement. You can also any two parameters by using the any three known parameters.
4. A car accelerates uniformly from 6 m/s to 10 m/s taking 15 seconds. How fat did it travel during this period.
Given that,
Initial velocity u = 6 m/s, final velocity v = 10 m/s, Time t = 15 seconds
s = ½(v + u)t
s = ½(10 + 6) * 15
= 8 * 15 = 120
The dislacement is 120 meters.
